San Solomon Springs

Fish at Balmorhea State Park. (Allyson K. Ricketts).

The San Solomon Springs at Balmorhea State Park are a treasured desert oasis. The park is one of the most popular destinations in West Texas, visisted by thousands each summer. The springs are also a wildlife sanctuary, and park officials are concerned about the growing visitation to the park. This week on Nature Notes, we learn about the history of the desert springs, the rare species that live there, and how officials are working to protect the ecosystem.

Andrew Stuart is the producer for the Marfa Public Radio series Nature Notes.
