Big Bend Geology

The geology of the Big Bend Region is so complex that geologists come from all over the world to study it. There's the Solitario, a dome of magma that collapsed 35 million years ago, the Hoodoos, on the banks of the Rio Grande between Redford and Lajitas, and Santa Elena Canyon.
