Our region is one of extremes, and like the strong winds of spring and summer, the storms of the monsoon season can be intense and violent. But, in arid West Texas, the sound of a summer thunderstorm is the sound of life. The rains from May through September account for the majority of the annual precipitation in the Trans-Pecos and Permian Basin.

This week on Nature Notes, we look at how climate change is affecting the North American monsoon, the primary source of precipitation for some of our most arid lands.
