Edward R. Murrow Award Entry: Continuing Coverage

jesse-1
The Monday morning scene in Calamity Creek, south of Alpine, November 25, 2013 (Jesse Kelsch)

Please consider this submission by Marfa Public Radio in the Murrow Award category of Continuing Coverage, for work produced in calendar year 2013.

This surveys the reports of the Ice Storm of November and December 2013 that downed power lines and plunged many cities into darkness, with some residents going without power for more than two weeks. (The radio station itself was briefly knocked off-air, though news staff was able to continue to report online and through social media.) Frigid temperatures and icy roads compounded the disaster. This entry includes both live and produced news reports.

AEP Texas, one of the electrical utility companies most affected, was so impressed with KRTS News radio coverage - on-air, online, and through social media - that they gave an award to the station.
