Weekend Sports Preview

In football news this weekend, the Alpine Fightin' Bucks (7-1) continue their strong season on Friday at home against Crane. The Bucks are coming off a 27-0 win against Stanton last week. The Balmorhea Bears (6-2) head to Sanderson to take on the Eagles (4-4), while the Fort Davis Indians (3-5) head to Garden City (2-6) to play the Bearkats.

After an upsetting 48-0 loss at home last Friday, the Marfa Shorthorns (3-5) head to Rankin to take on the successful Red Devils (7-1.)

The Sul Ross Lobos (3-5) will attempt to bounce back from a 86-42 loss to Hardin-Simmons University last week, as they take on Howard-Payne University for Saturday's homecoming game in Alpine. Howard-Payne has only won a single game this season, a 27-14 victory at Mississippi College's homecoming.

Area cross country teams head to Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock for the Region I-1A CC Meet on Saturday, while the Big Bend Youth Soccer Association hosts its tournament day for all youth divisions at Kokernot Park in Alpine. Games start at 8 am, concluding with championship games for each division at 4 pm. The games will be followed by an award ceremony and special prizes for the top three teams in each division. In addition, the Big Bend Youth Soccer Association Board will give away 12 Challenger Camp soccer scholarships, for a soccer camp to be held in August 2013.
