U.S. Representative Quico Canseco serves the 23rd District of Texas. The freshman Congressman spoke to a small gathering on Thursday night (February 24) at the Granada Theater in Alpine. He spoke about the H.R. 1 bill that passed the House last weekend, and addressed questions from local residents on a variety of topics: the federal deficit, education, the Federal Reserve, military spending, energy regulation, Planned Parenthood, financial industry regulation, Social Security, and more.
There were audience questions about the potential loss of federal funding for specific local projects, such as HUD monies for Alpine Public Library, research projects for Sul Ross State University, and CPB funding for Marfa Public Radio.
At 8 AM on Friday morning on 93.5 FM, John Waters, publisher of the Big Bend Gazette, will recap the Congressman's town-hall meeting, during our local news segment of Morning Edition.
