Celebrate Valentine's Day with Marfa Public Radio!
In case you heaven’t heard, Valentine’s Day is a big deal in West Texas. Something about the big skies, the romance of the stars … and of course, we’ve got a lovely little town called Valentine, too!
Marfa Public Radio has got you covered with not one, not two, but three ways to celebrate Valentine’s Day with us:
1. DJ Dr Love will be on the air for a special Valentine’s Day dedication show on Saturday February 14 from 5 -7 p.m.! If you’d like to give your sweetie a shoutout on the air or dedicate a song to your beloved, let us know HERE or you can leave the Doctor a voicemail at (432) 224 1350.
2. Our long-running and much-loved Saturday night music show, Texas Music Hour of Power with Joe Nick Patoski, will also be doing a special live show for Valentine’s Day, so stick around from 7 - 9 p.m. on the air or stop by the station to say hi and hear some live music!
3. Every year we do a special Valentine's Day postcard to send your love notes from Valentine, TX. Submissions are now closed, but you can purchase prints of Chris Ruggia's Valentine's Day design on his website, where your purchase will benefit Marfa Public Radio.
About the artist: Alpine artist and cartoonist Chris Ruggia specializes in wildlife, especially of the Big Bend area. He particularly loves to learn about and interpret current wildlife research, and to help put a spotlight on the hard-working scientists doing this important work.
Chris was a 2024 Big Bend National Park Artist in Residence, and he has partnered on art projects with Borderlands Research Institute, The Nature Conservancy, Rio Grande Joint Venture, Trans-Pecos Bird Conservation and other groups.
He has had a close relationship with Marfa Public Radio for many years, and he's particularly proud of the bandana design he created for us that you can still buy in our shop today!
Happy Valentine's Day from all of us here at Marfa Public Radio <3
