American Graduate

KRTS, in partnership with the Marfa Public Library, announces the American Graduate Youth Media Project, part of the public media initiative,

, made possible by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB). Over the course of the fall semester, 10 Marfa ISD students, chosen by their teachers and administrators, will pitch, record and produce their own radio stories to be broadcast on 93.5FM and featured on marfapublicradio.org. To kick off the American Graduate Youth Media Project at Marfa Public Radio, KRTS is participating in American Graduate Day, a nationwide, multi-platform media event. American Graduate Timeline

Saturday September 22nd KRTS launches its American Graduate Initiative by participating in American Graduate Day - a multi-platform event featuring a live television broadcast, radio playlist with premiere documentaries, and participation from more than 20 national partner organizations, celebrities and athletes to spotlight solutions to the nation’s dropout crisis in which one in four students do not finish high school. During the following week, KRTS programming focuses on education on the national and local level. A full programming schedule for American Graduate Week can be found below. Thursday October 18th KRTS and the Marfa Public Library host a Community Dialogue at 6:30pm at the library. Join us for a discussion of local education and mentorship. Wednesday October 19th Participating students selected by Marfa ISD staff and teachers. December 2012 Media workshops begin. January 2013 Join KRTS, the Marfa Public Library and the KRTS American Graduate students for a Listening Party, showcasing their radio stories. February & March 2013 KRTS American Graduate students’ stories broadcast on KRTS: Marfa Public Radio. KRTS American Graduate students’ web pages launch on marfapublicradio.org.
