More than a month ago, the Islamist militant group known as Boko Haram kidnapped over 200 girls from a school in Chibok in Nigeria’s north-eastern state of Borno. The news has dominated headlines all month and last weekend Texans held a rally. For Marfa Public Radio K. Yoland reports.
Last Sunday the Dallas community organized a Mother's Day Peace and Prayer Rally for the kidnapped girls. The Speakers included both Christians and those from the Islamic community.

On Tuesday the Islamist militants Boko Haram released a video of 130 girls presumed to be those kidnapped. The leaders told the camera that the girls who have not converted to Islam will be freed, if imprisoned militants are released by the Nigerian government. In more recent developments residents of three villages in Borno defended themselves from suspected Boko Haram fighters killing 200 militants.
International aid comes this week as the UK Prime minster David Cameron offered a spy plane to help the search and US Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel confirmed that their surveillance drones have been deployed to try and locate the schoolgirls.
