Friday, April 25, 2014:

10.35pm: Two people dead after a shooting in Midland. The victim has been identified as Henry Rodriquez III (35yrs) of the Midland Fire Department. He had worked with the emergency service for over 10 years. The gun man, who eventually shot himself after Friday's standoff with police was Nestor Castro Jr., (35 yrs).

8pm: Castro committed suicide less than an hour after the Midland bomb squad was ordered to send a robot into the residence to force him out.

Before the death of Castro the Midland ISD allowed parents to collect students on the north side of campus. CBS7 witness Dr. Ryder Warren, Midland ISD superintendent said “We had to be very careful how we evacuated the students...We had to take every precaution we could to ensure the safety of our kids.”

4.45 pm: There is an armed standoff in Midland and a gunshot victim is dead.

KRTS News spoke with City Officials who have not yet identified the male victim. The suspect is also not identified, at time of this report. Law enforcement officials are gathering resources in this standoff, including an armored vehicle.

The standoff is in the neighborhood near Midland Freshman High School and the public are advised to keep clear of the area until further notice. A DPS helicopter is assisting.

In this lock down situation between police and gunman (male but identity unknown) no one is allowed to enter or exit the campus. Midland Police department and MISD Police Department officials are on site.

The armed subject at time of writing has barricaded himself into a residence. Police and emergency personnel responded at 2.30pm to a building in the 2200 block of South Baird St. The male victim died of gunshot wounds at Midland Memorial hospital.
