Changes Are Coming to Guadalupe Mountains National Park

On Thursday (March 27), KRTS News looked at the potential of improvements of the western side of Guadalupe Mountains National Park. Chris Hillen spoke with Drew Stuart, editor of the Hudspeth Country Herald and Dell City Review.

Like the other national park in Texas - Big Bend National Park - the park at the Guadalupe Mountains is also off-the-beaten path, with low visitorship compared to other national parks in more populated areas. It's also home to the highest point in Texas, Guadalupe Peak at 8,750 feet.

Currently access to the park's trails and canyons exists along the eastern side of the park along Highway 62/180, the main road connecting El Paso TX to Carlsbad NM. Park officials are now looking at developing the western side of the park.
