What Might Next Year Hold for the International Port at Boquillas?

A Mexican citizen paddles his canoe from the northern shoreline of the Rio Grande into Coahuila, Mex. near Boquillas.

The international port at Boquillas, Mexico, connects the Mexican state of Coahuila with Big Bend National Park, across the Rio Grande. It has been an official border crossing since early 2013. On Friday morning, the Big Bend Gazette reported that the port may be facing seasonal closures in 2014, by request of Mexican officials.

KRTS News spoke to David Elkowitz of Big Bend National Park, who could not confirm the report, stating that no official directive has been made. "We have heard the same information second or third hand."
