Weekend Sports Roundup - October 14
There was tragedy across the board in Trans-Pecos Football this week, and victory for those in the Permian Basin.
First up, the Alpine Fightin' Bucks lost their game against the Sonora Broncos 44-33, setting the Bucks record back at an even 3-3. The Fort Davis Indians were shutout by the Ira Bulldogs 52-0, keeping Fort Davis without a win and Ira without a loss. Van Horn narrowly avoided a shutout in their game against the Wink Wildcats, losing 36-7 and sticking with their win-less year. The Fort Stockton Panthers also kept a goose-egg in the Wins column in their record, losing 48-28 against the Fabens Wildcats and leaving the Panthers with an 0-6 record. Finally in the Tran-Pecos, the Sierra Blanca Vaqueros defense was practically non-existent in their loss against the Balmorhea Bears, which ended with a final score of 86-40.
In the Permian Basin, the Crane Cranes kept their lossless season going, beating the Reagan County Owls 41-14. The Monahans Loboes handed the Greenwood Rangers their first loss of their, with the Loboes taking the game 42-14. The Grandfalls-Royalty Cowboys took their fifth straight win, dominating the Buena Vista Longhorns 59-6. In Eleven-Man Football, the Midland Lee Rebels narrowly avoided a loss against the Abilene Eagles, sneaking out a 53-51 win.
Finally, the Sul Ross Lobos barely missed out on their first win of the year at their homecoming game, taking a loss from the Mississippi College Chocktaws 34-30.
