Joe Nick Patoski, writer, historian and volunteer DJ at Marfa Public Radio, talked with general manager Tom Michael during All Things Considered on Friday, July 13. He stopped by before his talk at Marfa Book Company later that night, where he discussed and answered questions about some of the books he's written.

During the visit, Michael presented Patoski a handmade box by a Marfa Public Radio listener, Gerald V. Scott, from Van Horn. The box contained a fiddle signed by the Texas Troubadour singer, Ernest Tubb, with a note saying "Happy 80th Willie." Scott wants Patoski to eventually show the fiddle to Willie Nelson, who Patoski has written about extensively in the past.
"This is what Willie's all about," said Patoski. "He gets people doing crazy stuff like Gerald right here."
Patoski has written many books on Texas culture. He's written about Texas musicians such as Selena, Stevie Ray and Willie Nelson and about West Texas natural environment including the Big Bend, the Texas coast and the mountains of Texas. His latest book is about "America's team," the Dallas Cowboys.

Patoski will host two hours of Texas Music Hour of Power tonight, July 13, from 6-8 pm that will broadcast on Marfa Public Radio and West Texas Public Radio
