On Saturday, April 13, 2013, young riders from the Big Bend region were in Marfa, Texas honing their roping skills at the arena on the east side of town. The riders and their trusted mounts worked hard under the sweltering sun. Roping is a piece of western U.S. culture burnished in the memory of anyone who has lived in or passed through Texas. Lorne Matalon sent these images of riders from Texas and New Mexico.
