UPDATE 8:15 PM: Power restored. Cell phone service still down in parts of Jeff Davis County.

On Tuesday evening, April 16, cell phones & electricity down in part of Fort Davis, Limpia Crossing, and McDonald Observatory. Marfa Public Radio just spoke with Mike Ward of Jeff Davis County EMS.

"A piece of heavy machinery snagged one of the guide wires for a telephone pole and brought that down," said Ward. This knocked out electricity and cellular telephones in the Fort Davis area. The contractors involved were working on new dollar store in Fort Davis.

AEP arrived on the scene in the 7 PM hour, and power is expected to be back up around 9:30p. AT&T is also on site, but there's currently no word on when cell phone service will be restored. 911 service is still in service, but only from land lines.
