What's In A Burn Ban?

admin-ajax

With the recent fire in Alpine, and Brewster county reinstating it's Burn Ban on March 26, Marfa Public Radio would like to remind everyone what a Burn Ban means.
*No ground fires of any type allowed

*No open fires allowed (including campfires)

*Charcoal fires allowed only in an elevated container

*Burning trash is not allowed

Area counties currently under burn bans are BrewsterJeff Davis, Presidio, Hudspeth, Culberson, and Pecos. Please be careful with BBQs and putting out cigarette butts. Check with your county for specific guidelines.

Additionally, during this time of year, you may hear about Red Flag Warning days. According to the National Weather Service, they issue Red Flag Warnings & Fire Weather Watches to "alert land management agencies about the onset, or possible onset, of critical weather and fuel moisture conditions that could lead to rapid or dramatic increases in wildfire activity. This could be due to low relative humidity, strong winds, dry fuels, or any combination thereof."
