Last night (Thursday, April 4) was the kick off of the Viva Big Bend Food Festival at the Granada Theater in Alpine. Marfa Public Radio was there eating reporting on the scene. The opening party featured hefty samples from area food stars such as Reata Steak House, Cow Dog, and Murphy St. Raspa Co.
Thanks to Dale Watson and Tessy Lou and the Shotgun Stars, guests were able to pull themselves away from the food-booths to scoot on the dance floor. Some of us even got a fumbled and jovial lesson in two-stepping. All in all, it was just the kind of hardy, spring evening your belly and boots desire.
The festival continues today with interactive cooking demonstrations, tours, pre- and post-dinner happy hours, and live music in Alpine, Marfa, and Fort Davis. Most events require wrist bands and RSVPs, which are both available at vivabigbend.com. If you can’t make it out, Marfa Public Radio will be keeping you updated all weekend.
