The Alpine Fightin' Ladybucks volleyball squad closed out their season on Thursday (November 1) with a loss to Nocona in four sets.
The Alpine Fightin' Bucks gained yet another victory on Friday against Crane, defeating the Golden Cranes 33-9 and bringing the team closer to a chance at a district title. The Bucks' record stands at 8-1 with one game left in the regular season.
Balmorhea toppled Sanderson on Friday, beating the Eagles 50-14 and bringing their record to 7-2. The Fort Davis Indians were pummeled by the Bearkats in Garden City, losing 58-24. The Marfa Shorthorns faced a hard battle in Rankin, falling 54-6 and pushing the Red Devils to a #15 spot in overall rankings for the state.
The Sul Ross Lobos scored a triumphant homecoming game victory against Howard-Payne University on Saturday in Alpine, bringing their record to 4-5. Howard-Payne took an early lead in the first, scoring 14 points to the Lobos' 10, but managed only a single field goal for the rest of the game. The Lobos won it with a final score of 58-17.
Also on Saturday, the Big Bend Youth Soccer Association hosted their Tournament Day at Kokernot Park in Alpine. A total of twenty scholarships were given out to players ranging from under six to fifteen years-old, which will be used for a youth soccer camp to be held in August of 2013.
