High school volleyball continues this weekend, with the Alpine Fightin' Ladybucks hosting Kermit on Saturday, October 13th. The Ladybucks faced the Lady Jackets last weekend in Kermit, losing in 5 sets, but managed to pull a quick 3-set win on Tuesday against Tornillo. Marfa volleyball hosts Sierra Blanca on Saturday morning, and will also host the Marfa Shorthorn Stampede cross country meet at the Marfa Golf Course.
In football news, the Sul Ross Lobos will head to Seguin on Saturday to take on Texas Lutheran University. The Lobos gained their second win of the season last weekend against Mississippi College, a triumphant 75-42 victory to compliment the team's nearly 900-mile drive to Clinton, MS. The Fort Davis Indians (3-3) head to Garden City on Saturday to play the undefeated Ira Bulldogs (6-0.) Fort Davis pulled a high-scoring 91-58 victory over Midland Trinity last Friday.
The Balmorhea Bears (4-1) head to Sierra Blanca on Friday, October 12 to take on the Vaqueros (3-2), while the Alpine Fightin' Bucks travel to Sonora for their first district game of the season. The Bucks suffered their first loss of the season against Muleshoe two weekends ago. Both teams are 4-1.
The Marfa Shorthorns (2-4) host their homecoming game against El Paso Immanuel Christian (1-5) on Friday at Martin Field. The game is the Horns' second of the season at home, and will begin with the Homecomig King & Queen announcement at 7 pm. A homecoming parade and pep rally will take place on Thursday, October 11, at 7 pm in Marfa.
