The Marfa Country Clinic report that there has been a confirmed case of West Nile Virus identified in Presidio County, with two more possible cases, which are currently unconfirmed. The clinic reminds the public to take simple precautions against the virus, such as using mosquito spray containing DEET, screening windows and doors, and eliminating standing bodies of water.
Symptoms of severe disease resulting from the virus include headache, high fever, neck stiffness, tremors, stupor, and/or paralysis.
Most people infected with West Nile Virus will not develop any illness, but those over are 50 years or older are at the highest risk for getting ill.
