Wednesday, July 6 Debut: The Geography of Jazz

Musician Johnny Hodges, one of the many artists featured on Wednesday's program.

Tonight at 9 PM, hear the debut of Dave Leonnig's new "Geography of Jazz" program. This feature begins in Tennessee, but spends most of the time on Indiana, Kentucky, Alabama, and Louisiana. Musicians include Dick Hyman, Kate Smith, Bobby Darin, Johnny Mercer, Bob Crosby and the Bob Cats, and an Eddie Condon tribute band.

Then, from 10 to 11 PM, Dave will feature guys named John. We'll hear from hornmen Johnny Hodges, Johnny Griffin, Johnny Coles and John “Dizzy” Gillespie, vocalist Johnny Hartman, plus pianists Johnny Costa, John Eaton and Johnny Guarnieri.
