County Meeting on Wildfires
There was a standing-room only crowd for the Town Hall Meeting yesterday (Tuesday, May 17) at the Jeff Davis County Courthouse in Fort Davis to discuss the county response to the devastating Rock House Fire in April-May 2011.
The meeting was moderated by Captain Jay Webster of the Texas Department of Safety. County officials were in attendance, and there was an extended period of citizen comment.

A key outcome of the meeting was the acknowledgement of a need for improved communications for future emergency preparedness. Citizens offered suggestions including a warning siren system, a reverse 911 system, a backup generator for the water supply in Fort Davis, a dedicated radio band, and loosened controls on highway closures.
