Wildfire Update Monday (May 9)

A Monday morning reminder that Highway 90/67 is open, between Marfa and Alpine.

The Gage Holland Fire, which started Sunday afternoon west of Alpine, is at 10% containment, with 3,500 acres burned. As of last night, there were still 75 structures threatened, referring to the Sunny Glen area on the west edge of Alpine.

Yesterday, firefighters successfully halted the fire's progress at FM 1703.

Forest Service officials, which had previously referred to the fire as the Roadside Park Fire and then the Holland Gage Fire, have now labeled it the Gage Holland Fire.
