Wildfire Update Sunday (May 8) 2pm

Brewster County Sheriff Ronny Dodson calling for the evacuation of Sunny Glen, the residential area on the west of Alpine. Residents allowed "limited access" this hour, in order "to get in and get out" in order to gather pets and family members.

Westbound traffic on Highway 67/90 leaving Alpine is now closed, roughly near the Ramada Inn on the west end of Alpine. 2:30 PM Traffic closed both ways on Highway 90 between Alpine and Marfa. (Travelers wanting to go between those two cities will have to go through Fort Davis along Highways 17 and 118.)

Train traffic along Union Pacific line currently stopped.

This is now being called the ROADSIDE PARK FIRE. There are resources on site making air drops. UPDATE: Per officials, now being called HOLLAND GAGE FIRE.

Now talking to Raquel Espinoza of Union Pacific, who reported that train crews reported a fire at Noon on Sunday, west of Alpine, in the area of the railroad tracks, and reported it to local authorities.

3 PM: Highway 90 now re-opened west of Alpine. CLOSED AGAIN.
