It's Day 7 of the Rock House Fire, which started on Saturday just west of Marfa, and quickly spread north to Fort Davis. For the past few days, the active front of the fire has been on the northeast flank of the fire. That’s located around Big Agua Canyon which is just southeast of White Mountain, south of the Boy Scout Road.
KRTS just spoke to Oscar Maestas from the Texas Forest Service with this update. TFS has officially classified the acreage burned at 165,000 acres. The fire has been considered 60% contained for the past few days, but today they’ve upped that to 65%.
Fire crews are working in a rugged area that is difficult to access. Firefighters - including a number of hand crews - will be camping up there for the next few days and will continue to build a containment line. There are currently 90 crew members on the scene.
Weather should be favorable for the next few days. The fire is slowly “backing” (firefighter lingo for "just creeping along"), and things look good.
