It's Day 4 of the Rock House Fire. It is 60 percent contained, with 108,000 acres burned.
The focus today are the fires on Casket and Star Mountains, and a line of fire in between. They are well within the interior of the charred outside perimeter so they don't expect further break-outs.
Last night there were some maneuvers to control the fire and keep it from spreading into Sproul and Prude ranches.
Residents of the Davis Mountains Resort and Limpia Crossing reported smoky conditions overnight.
Power was restored to the McDonald Observatory at 7 PM on Monday night.
Wild Rose Pass is burned and throughout Short Canyon. Eyewitness reports from Prude and Wild Rose Ranch claim they are now safe, without loss of structures.
Texas Highway 17 is now open north of Fort Davis. All tri-county roads open.
10:40 AM UPDATE: KRTS just spoke with Jim Fowler of the Fort Davis Volunteer Fire Department about the portion of the fire burning in the Mitre Peak area. Operations there are 75 percent complete, and they’ll continue working on the area throughout the afternoon.
There is still much smoke in air around Alpine due to shifting winds. Winds are supposed to turn to the south later today, and Fowler says that will help blow smoke out of the area. Brewster County Sheriff Ronny Dodson confirmed that there was much smoke and blowing ash in Alpine, saying "it really is nasty looking." There will be smoke in and out of the area today as winds shift.
