Through intermediary sources, KRTS learned that Brewster County Officials said power will be shut off to Alpine, Marathon, and Terlingua at 5:50 PM. KRTS called the Brewster County Sheriff's office to confirm. A dispatcher confirmed. The power will be off for 1 to 3 hours as AEP crews work to replace poles and lines that have been effected by the fire outside of Alpine.
Limpia Crossing outside of Fort Davis is once again without power.
Residents of Fort Davis and Marfa are continuing to see smoke because the north/northwest winds. This is blowing the smoke back from the Wild Rose Pass area into Fort Davis and on to Marfa.
With the wind shift, the southern edges are pushing south. The fire is still 40 percent contained. The portion of the fire burning on Barry Scobey Mountain, just northeast of Fort Davis, is under control. The current tally of burned land is at 80,000 + acres.
In Brewster County, the Roper Ranch Fire is currently at a 70 percent containment level. The amount of acreage was 30,000 at least report. No further information on this fire is available at this time.
Highway 17 between Fort Davis and Balmorhea is currently closed as well as Highway 118 between Fort Davis and Alpine. Visibility on these roads is very poor due to the amount of smoke blowing across the roadway.
Generators were set up in Fort Davis last night with most residents having power restored. Power has also been restored at Limpia Crossing, however road conditions on Highway 118 North between Fort Davis and the McDonald Observatory call for poor visibility. Drivers on this roadway are asked to use caution if traveling in this area.
