Nearly 2 weeks after it first started, the McDannald Ranch fire is now 83 percent contained and still has a footprint just above 19,000 acres.
The McDannald Ranch Fire — which is believed to have been started by a lightning strike — has burned throughout the Davis Mountains area since April 30th.
This week, hundreds of personnel from across the country were in Fort Davis to help with operations. By Friday, roughly half of the firefighters that were stationed out of Bloys Camp had left with a federal team to respond to large fires in the Texas Panhandle.
Anyone in the Fort Davis area Friday, will most likely smell or see smoke. Fire officials say, a shift in wind direction has "likely ignited unburned field within the McDannald burn area." And that's brought in some smoke into the area.
