Federal Government Shutdown Closes Big Bend National Park

Big Bend National Park website has been redirected.

Today KRTS news spoke with John Waters, publisher of the Big Bend Gazette, who is at the Terilingua entrance to the Big Bend National Park today in South Brewster county.  After today's shut down of the Federal Government, many are not aware of the effects the sequester would have on the National Park system.  Waters describes tourists from as far away as Denmark being turned away at the gates to Big Bend today.  After a few rangers came in this morning to barricade park entrances, all park employees are on an unpaid leave of absence until Congress comes to a compromise on refunding the Federal Government.  Those who are currently staying in the park have 48 hours to leave the park.  Fortunately for nature lovers, all state parks, including the nearby Big Bend Ranch State Park, are still open and operating.
