Marfa Synth with DJ Brian
The Marfa Book Company hosts SYNTH CLASS, a free four-week session of synthesizer history and instruction presented by the multitalented musician and producer Brian LeBarton. (He hosts the Friday night Marfa Public Radio program “Generator.”) The classes are open to people of all ages and skill levels and will take place on four consecutive Tuesdays at 7 PM, starting September 11 and concluding October 2.
SYNTH CLASS begins with an historical introduction to the instrument, its creators and best-known players; continues with the basic waveforms and functions of the synthesizer; and concludes by demonstrating some of the synthesizer’s more advanced features.
Other elements of SYNTH CLASS include highlights from Brian’s record bin, samples from notorious “synth crimes,” and the scientific and common names for synthesizer sounds and techniques. SYNTH CLASS will feature live video projection of Brian’s fingers at the synthesizer to make it possible for students to see the subject up close.
Brian LeBarton will be interviewed about SYNTH CLASS on KRTS 93.5 FM on Monday, September 10, at 10:15 AM. Watch the class preview here. Here's another sample.
