An going dispute among elected officials in Presidio County centers on Sheriff Danny Dominguez' refusal to sign a newly-adopted conflict of interest policy. Commissioners have repeatedly brought up the issue at meetings inside the county courthouse. (KRTS File Photo)

Marfa Public Radio is a proud sponsor of the Marfa Lights Festival, which takes place this Labor Day Weekend, August 31 - September 2, on the Presidio County Courthouse lawn.

The festival begins at 5:30 PM on Friday with a parade up Highland Ave, ending with a Marfa Shorthorn Pep Rally (KRTS Marfa will have its very first float in the Marfa Lights Festival Parade this year!). Live entertainment will follow, and food and craft vendors will be open for business.

The fun continues Saturday morning with 5k walk/run, registration will open at 7 AM, or preregister online. Also on Saturday home bakers are invited to submit their hand-made pies for consideration in the Pie Baking Contest.

On Sunday, there's the FIRST EVER Marfa Lights Festival Soap Box Derby, and a salsa competition. Vendors and entertainment will be hopping from noon until 6 PM on Sunday.
