KRTS observed the burnout operations of the Rock House Fire on Friday night, from the vantage point of Mount Locke.
The fire has consumed 202,756 acres and is 75% contained.
Today firefighters are burning out an area in the northwest section of the Rock House Fire, between the fire and roads. These roads, which are set back, will allow firefighters to more safely attack it as it comes out of the canyon lands.
Burn out operations are likely to continue for several days. Nearby residents may see Texas National Guard engineering battalions creating safety breaks for this new backfire.
SATURDAY, 5PM: The Madera Canyon Trail adjacent to the Lawrence E. Wood Picnic Area on Highway 118 north of the McDonald Observatory is closed due to fire defense operations.
