Willie Nelson in Far West Texas

KRTS DJ Joe Nick Patoski - who hosted the General Store on 93.5 FM on Saturday night - wrote a newspaper article published Sunday in the Texas Tribune/New York Times on musician Willie Nelson's citation for pot possession in Sierra Blanca.

Sierra Blanca is located on the western edge of the KRTS signal, and its local newspaper editor, Drew Stuart, is a former staffer at Marfa Public Radio. You can follow Stuart's reporting on the Willie Nelson bust in the Hudspeth County Herald.

The last time Willie spent so much time in local media was when he hosted a benefit concert in Alpine for the pre-launch of Marfa Public Radio on Valentine's Day 2006. This has been Willie's only concert in Far West Texas in several decades.

And $5 souvenirs from that historic concert are still available here.
