Rachel Osier Lindley and Anne Adkins spent the morning at Marfa ISD, and showed interview techniques to the students, and shared public radio stories from youth-centered programs like Youth Radio and Generation Next.

Rachel & Anne also talked about the possibility of high school internships, which in the past has beneffited both the student and the station.

At 7 PM, it’s World Music with Carol, followed by Texas Music Matters at 8 PM. On this week’s Texas Music Matters, a preview of Texas artists who will be taking part in next month’s South By Southwest music festival.

Then at 9 PM, it’s Sound Opinions, the World’s ONLY Rock and Roll talk show. On this week’s show, just in time for Valentine’s Day, hosts Jim DeRogatis, Greg Kot and the listeners name their favorite First Love Songs.

And at 10 PM, Brian LeBarton, host of GENERATOR on will have songwriter, producer and friend Mocky in the studio to talk about anything and play music from his own catalog and collaborations. Mocky is a Canadian-born multiinstrumentalist, producer and songwriter. He is widely renowned for his co-productions and songwriting collaborations with Jamie Lidell, Feist, Peaches and Gonzales and also possesses his own diverse catalog of solo albums and film scores.

The Alpine Daily Planet featured the story of Janet Nieto and Ana Karen, members of the Presidio High School Rocketry Team that competed as a National Finalist in the Team America Rocketry Challenge (TARC) in 2009, 2010 and 2011. Also visiting President Obama was Gwynelle Condino, a 7th grade student, and TARC team leader, at Lucy Franco Middle School in Presidio.

Shella Condino is the physics teacher with a knack for rocketry who led the students to national recognition. Other news reports on the event include the Dallas News, which recounts how the girls told the President about a Presidio tradition:

As Obama was leaving their exhibit, Gwynelle, a seventh-grader at Lucy Rede Franco Middle School, stopped him.

“Um, Mr. Obama? We have a tradition in Presidio rocketry to have a group hug after every project,” she said.

Obama said he liked the tradition and gave them all a hug.

Park rangers closed several high Chisos Mountain trails today, at 8 AM Monday morning. Patrols began hunting for the lion.

At Noon, KRTS Radio reported on the situation. Additional national park personnel began patrols to notify trail users of the closure and to evacuate the area.  As of this posting, Monday at 4 PM, the lion has not been located. A trained, professional dog team has been summoned to the park to help track it.

Trail and campsite closures include the Window Trail, which is closed until further notice; the Pinnacles, Boulder Meadow, and Juniper Flat campsites of the Chisos Mountains are closed until further notice.  Children are not advised to hike in the Chisos Mountains at this time and visitors should check on trail closures, which may change.

Tuesday, February 7: According to Big Bend National Park officials today, there are no new updates. But this KOSA Odessa CBS 7 news report includes an update on the boy’s condition and mention of additional encounters with the mountain lion.

Their guest during the 8 o’clock hour is Laura Gibson, who is touring behind her new CD, La Grande, and will be appearing in Marfa this weekend. A portion of this interview will be replayed on Friday morning at 10 AM, during the Talk At Ten interview program.

After Indie Kitty is Groove Line, at 10 PM, hosted by Leslie of Marfa, who will be looking back at the musical life of Don Cornelius, the host of the long-running television program, Soul Train.

Next week on the new music program, on Tuesday, February 14, a Saint Valentine’s Day special.

And then tune in for a special 2-hour broadcast of Joe Nick Patoski‘s Texas Music Hour of Power from 7-9 PM. The Texas historian and music writer hosts a mix of Texas tunes that’ll make the perfect soundtrack for your Saturday night.

4 PM: The U.S. Attorney’s office announced that those arrested included ringleaders John Michael Guadarrama of Sanderson and Oscar Fierro of Alpine.

In the two separate indictments from a federal grand jury in Pecos, a total of 22 defendants have been named, on a variety of charges.

Others charged include Clarissa Marie Luevano of Sanderson, Rene Ortega of Fort Stockton, Irene Mirano Alvarado of Alpine, James Horatio Torres of Alpine, Justin Gilbert Villanueva of Alpine, John Staessans of Alpine, Katheryn Staessans of Alpine, Ernesto Cedillo Vega of Alpine, Leo Ruben Portillo of Alpine, Antonio Covarrubias, Jr. of Alpine, Federico Hernandez of Alpine, Eric Keith Payne of Alpine, Manual David Carrillo of Alpine, Joel Rojo Fierro of Alpine, Ramona Alaniz Ramirez of Alpine, Robert Molinar Ramos of Alpine, Christopher Michael Quezada of Alpine, Miguel Luis Llanez of Alpine, Irene Wright Olivas of Alpine, and David Christopher Hardin of Alpine.
