What concerns you about our national economy? Our state economy? Our local economy?

health care and the Big Bend Medical Center
Hi, KRTS.
Depending on which statistics you hear anywhere from 50-60% of bankruptcies are caused by medical bills.
At the Big Bend Regional Medical Center they charge about 4 times what they charge in Austin for basic blood tests.
Is that par for the course in rural hospitals or is our hospital worse than most?
Is there anyone out there who has a story to tell?

A doctor in this area
A doctor in this area charged over $50 to check my blood pressure! I would not have had it checked if I would have known that is what he/she charges!
I wonder what BRMC charges.
The problem is probably with the insurance companies actually paying that much for a blood pressure check. Since I don't have medical insurance, I noticed the price right away!
No, the $50 wasn't the "appointment fee". If I would have actually set up an appointment and had other "checkup" type of medical things done, I would understand a bill over $50.
The moral of the story: Always ask how much a procedure will cost (I think I did ask in my case and I thought the answer was he/she would not charge anything since I was with a friend at the time and I just went with him/her to his/her appointment and happened to just think about asking if I could have my blood pressure checked).
Federal Spending
My biggest concern with the current state of the economy is that the government is pumping too much stimulus money into the economy. Recessions happen, historically, and consistently. While this one in particular is a bigger deficit than ones in the past, I still feel it is necessary for the economy to recover on its own as much as it can. Federal spending does help but if we can't sustain our national and local economy on our own the recession will concave once federal stimulus money goes away. It worries me that we're not creating new jobs, and bailing out banks and car companies.
