‘BECOMING KINKY’ COMES TO THE CROWLEY THEATER IN MARFA

“Becoming Kinky: The World According to Kinky Friedman” is a new musical play about the life of Kinky Friedman, the iconoclastic Texas musician, author, and political figure. It will make its West Texas debut on Saturday September 3 at 7:30 PM at the Crowley Theater in Marfa.

“Becoming Kinky” was written by Ted Swindley, the creator of the popular touring production of “Always…Patsy Cline.” The irreverent play features the music and humor of Kinky Friedman, including his quixotic 2006 campaign for governor. “Becoming Kinky” includes the music that launched Kinky to statewide fame, including songs such as “Marilyn and Joe,” “Get Your Biscuits In The Oven,” and “They Ain’t Making Jews Like Jesus Anymore.”

“Becoming Kinky” made its theatrical debut this spring in Houston. Kinky does not appear in the show, but he is portrayed by three different actors. The play is being produced locally with the support of Marfa Live Arts.

Any proceeds of the event will benefit Marfa Public Radio, which is a listener-supported community radio station and 501(c)3 charitable organization.

Listen to 93.5 FM for a behind-the-scenes look at the play, during the “Talk At Ten” program, at 10 AM, on Friday September 2.

Special thanks to Dick and Janie DeGuerin for their sponsorship of this event.
